An experiment was conducted at the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University. Dhaka during the period from March to September 2007, to investigate
the effect of different sowing time and levels of nitrogen on growth and yield of
okra. The experiment consisted of two factors i, e Sowing time: four dates of
sowing were considered 1 April, 2007 (S,). 16 April, 2007 (S
2
). 1 May, 2007 (5
3)
and 16 May. 2007 (S
4
) and Levels of nitrogen: four different levels of nitrogen
were comparcd 0 (N
0),
50 (N1
), 100 (N
2
) and 150 (N
3
) kg N/ha respectively. The
experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design RCBD? with
three replications. In case of sowing time, the highest yield (8.96 t ha' ) was
recorded from S
2
and the lowest (6.7 t ha") from S
4
. Incase of nitropn. the highest
yield (9.44 t ha") was obtained from N
3
and the lowest (5.74 t ha
- ) from N
o. For
combined effect, the maximum yield (9.20 t ha") was observed from the treatment
combination of S
2N3
and the minimum (6.22 t ha") from S
4N0
. It may be
concluded that 16Apr11 with 150 kg nitrogen can be used to obtain higher growth
and yield of okra. |
