Abstract:
The main objectives of this study were to determine and describe the constraints
fhced by the farmers in cassava cultivation and explore the relationships between
tile selected characteristics of farmers and constraints faced by them in cassava
cultivation. Ten villages of Modhupur Upazilla tinder Tangail district was selected
as the study area. Appropriate scales were developed in order to measure the
concerned variables. A statistical software package named SPSS was used to
analyze the data and Karl Pcarsons Correlation Co-efficient were used to test (lie
relationships between the independent and dependent variables. Majority (86.2%)
of the farmers fliced medium constraints compared to I 2% hieing low constraints
and only 1.9
0
% facing high constraints in cassava cultivation. Farm
size,
cassava
cultivation area, annual family income, annual incoflie from cassava cultivation.
cassava cultivation knowledge and extension contact of' the respondents had
signilicant negative relationships with their constraints thced in cassava
cultivation. Other variables namely age. education and hitmily size of the
respondents had no significant relationship with their constraints faced in cassava
cultivation. Based on descending order of Constraint Faced Index (CE!) lack of
cassava storage facility ranked lirsi followed by higher interest rate of credit and
lack of sufficient labor theility. Lack of sufficient irrigation flicilities ranked last.
