dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted in the Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculniral University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period from July to November 2011 to snidy the effect of L)Izai,zc/za biomass incorporation on the growth and yield of aman rice as a supplement of nitrogenous fertilizer. BRRI dhan40 was used as the test crop in this experiment. At 20, 40, 60, 80 DAT and harvest, the highest plant height (21.67 cm. 46.13 cm. 65.29 cm, 96.15 cm and 113.65 cm) was recorded from l2 (100 kg N had (from urea) 20 kg N ha1 (from 0/ia/nc/ia) [Land preparation]) whereas, at the same DAT the lowest plant height (14.00 cm. 36.76 cm. 54.94 cm. 80. 10 cm and 91.19 cm) was observed from T 1 - (control). The maximum number of effective tillers per hill (12.33) was found from T 2 and the minimum number (6. 13) was found from T 12 . The highest length of panicle (22.96 cm) was recorded from T 3 (100 kg N haS ' (from urea) ± It) kg N hi' (from fl/ia/nc/ia) [Land preparation] + 10 kg N hi' (from 0/rn/nc/ia) [top dressing]) and the lowest length (15.56 cm) was observed from T 12 . The highest grain yield (5.17 hi') was obtained from T2. while the lowest (2.48 t hi') was found from T 12. The highest straw yield (5.89 t hi') was obtained from T2 and the lowest (3.72 ha1 ) was found from 112. The highest N concentration in grain (1.31%) was recorded from T, (120 kg N ha4 (from urea). while the lowest grain (0.92%) was observed fromT, 2 . The highest N uptake by grain (67.53 kg hi') was recorded from T, and the lowest (22.69 kg hi') was recorded from T 12 . The highest organic matter in post harvest soil (1.30%) was recorded from T 3 and the lowest (1.05%) was observed from T, 2. The highest total nitrogen in post harvest soil (0.053%) was recorded from T2 and the lowest total nitrogen in post harvest soil (0.026( 1, 0) was obtained from T 12 . Application of 100 kg N ha 4 (from urea) f 20 kg N hi' (from Dh(/ncha) [Land preparation] was the superior among the other treatments in consideration of yield contributing characters and yield of BRRI dhan40. en_US
