A field experiment was conducted at the “Horticulture Farm” of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period of October 2021 to April
2022 in Rabi season to perform a study on the performance of different varieties of
sweet pepper on the growth and yield under protected structures. The experiment
consisted of two factors and followed Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD)
with three replications. Factor A: Protected structures, i.e. T
1
= Open field, T
2
= Net
house and T
3
= Poly tunnel and Factor B: Varieties, i.e. V
1
= BARI Mistimorich 1, V
2
= BARI Mistimorich 2 and V
3
= California Wonder. Experimental results revealed that
different protected structures and varieties significantly influenced the growth and yield
of sweet pepper. In case of protective structures, the highest yield per plant (0.81 kg),
yield per plot (5.65 kg) and yield per hectare (50.83 t) were obtained from T
2
(Net
house) treatment. Among different variety, V
2
(BARI Mistimorich 2) variety gave the
highest yield per plant (0.72 kg), yield per plot (5.00 kg) and yield per hectare (45.00 t)
of sweet pepper. In case of combination treatment, the highest yield per plant (0.94 kg),
yield per plot (6.53 kg), yield per hectare (58.75 t) and benefit cost ratio (BCR) were
obtained from the treatment combination T
2
V
2
(Net house + BARI Mistimorich 2)
comparable to other treatment combination. Therefore, it was suggested that cultivation
of BARI Mistimorich 2 along with net house (T
2
V
2
) combination treatment would help
to influence plant growth and increase its ability to enhanced better yield and quality
production of sweet pepper. |
