Abstract:
The study was aimed to examine the Farmers’ opinion about climate change effect
in haor area of Bangladesh and estimate the level of contribution of the selected
characteristics of the farmers to the effect of climate change on agriculture. The
study used quantitative and qualitative methods based on data collection. The locale
of the study was conducted in Mohanganj upazila under Netrokona district and data
were collected from 80 farmers in March, 2023. Descriptive statistics, multiple
regressions, were used for data analysis. In case of study, 50.0 percent of the
farmers encountered high effect, 33.75 percent faced medium effect and 16.25
percent of the farmers encountered low effect of climate change in haor area of
Bangladesh. Among the variables age, family size, annual family income,
educational qualification, access to ICTs, perception on climate change, attitude
towards adverse effect climate change and Farmer’s opinion about Climate Change
effect in Haor Area of Bangladesh had significant contribution to the effect of
climate change on the farmers in haor area of Bangladesh. It is concluded that
climate change may play an important role in decreasing the yield of agricultural
production and increasing the number of adopted new varieties of agricultural crops
by the farmers. It is recommended that the Bangladesh government should take
initiative such as ensuring adult education, giving more knowledge to ICTs,
adopting resistant varieties for reducing effect of climate change on farmers in haor
areas of Bangladesh for a sustainable agricultural development
