Protozoal infection is one of the major drawback of cattle farming in Bangladesh. It
causes a serious damage to the productivity of cattle. The present study aimed to look
at the prevalence of protozoan infection in cattle of Bhangura upazila of Pabna
district. A total of 125 fecal samples were collected from different areas of Bhangura
upazila of Pabna and microscopic investigation was conducted to identify protozoal
oocyst/egg. The result showed 35.2% of overall prevalence. Individual prevalence was
observed 23.2% for Balantidia coli and 12% for Eimeria spp. Adult cattle (41.02%)
were more susceptible than younger ones (25.53%) whereas prevalence was more
prominent in monsoon season (51.43%) compared to winter (14.55%). Dewormed
cattle were somewhat more resistant to protozoan infection (22.11% vs 76.67%).
Extensive study including more associated risk factors will give a more detailed picture
about the protozoan infection. |
