Abstract:
The field experiment was conducted at the research farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207 during the period from July 2019 to
November 2019 to find out the effect of manure and phosphorus on growth and yield of
aromatic rice. Two factors were used in the experiment, viz. Manure– M
(10 t ha
-1
cowdung) and M
2
(5 t ha
-1
poultry manure) and five levels of phosphorus
application- P
0
(control), P
(recommended dose of P), P
1
0
(control), M
(25% lower dose than recommended dose of P), P
3
(25% higher dose than recommended dose of P) and P
(50% higher dose than recommended dose of P). The experiment was laid out in a Splitplot
design with three replications. Data on different growth, yield and yield
contributing parameters were recorded. In case of manure, the tallest plant (115.55 cm),
maximum tillers hill
-1
(11.57), effective tillers hill
-1
(10.68), panicle length (27.52 cm),
filled grains panicle
-1
(172.21), total grains panicle
-1
(193.89), 1000 grains weight
(26.28 g), grain yield (4.36 t ha
-1
), straw yield (5.35 t ha
-1
), biological yield (9.71 t ha
)
and harvest index (44.85%) were achieved from the treatment M
1
(10 t cowdung ha
)
where the lowest recorded from M
(control) treatment. In case of phosphorus, the
tallest plant (123.27 cm), maximum tillers hill
0
-1
(11.87), effective tillers hill
(11.02),
panicle length (28.30 cm), filled grains panicle
-1
-1
(175.08), total grains panicle
(196.15), weight of 1000 grains (26.55 g), grain yield (4.43 t ha
-1
), straw yield (5.39 t
ha
-1
), biological yield (9.83 t ha
-1
) and harvest index (45.09%) were recorded from the
treatment P
3
(25% higher dose than recommended dose of P) where the lowest on P
(control) treatment. In case of combined effect, the tallest plant (125.15 cm), maximum
tillers hill
-1
(13.06), effective tillers hill
-1
(12.41), panicle length (30.85 cm), filled
grains panicle
-1
(188.40), total grains panicle
-1
(204.93), 1000 grains weight (27.72 g),
grain yield (4.87 t ha
-1
), straw yield (5.76 t ha
-1
), biological yield (10.63 t ha
) and
harvest index (45.81%) were achieved from M
1
P
treatment combination (10 t cowdung
ha
-1
3
+ 25% higher dose than recommended dose of P) where the lowest achieved from
the treatment combination of M
0
P
(control). Although the treatment combination of
manure, M
1
(10 t cowdung ha
-1
0
) with phosphorus treatment, P
(50% higher dose than
recommended dose of P) gave similar result with treatment combination of manure M
4
(10 t cowdung ha
-1
) with phosphorus treatment P
(25% higher dose than recommended
dose of P) may be recommended for aromatic rice cultivation as this combination
required lower dose of phosphorus
