EFFECT OF SOWING DATE AND POTASSIUM ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF SUNFLOWER IN KHARIF-I SEASON

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Farm, Dhaka 1207 (Tejgaon series under AEZ No.28) during Kharif-I (March – September), 2019 to study the growth and yield performance of BARI Surjomukhi 2 in response to sowing date, potassium and their combination. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: Four sowing date viz, S

1 : 21 March, S ii 2 :21 April, S : 22 June and Factor B: three levels of potassium; K 1 3 : recommended potassium (84 kg K ha -1 ), K 2 : 125% recommended potassium (105 kg K ha -1 ), K : 150% recommended potassium (126 kg K ha -1 3 ). The experiment was laid out in split - plot design with three replications. Sowing date was considered to main-plot and potassium level as sub-plot. Data on different growth, yield and yield parameters were taken. Result revealed that S (21 March) showed highest plant height (141.60 cm) at 80 DAS, head diameter (13.90 cm.) at harvest, no. of seed plant 1 -1 : 22 May, S (693.6), seed yield plant (40.03 g), weight of 1000-seed (45.17 g), seed yield (2.98 t ha -1 ), harvest index (44.51%). The lowest head diameter at harvest(12.83cm), no. of seeds plant -1 (514.33), seed yield (2.14 t ha -1 )was obtained from 22 May (S ).The shorten maturity days (73.78 days) found from 21 March (S 1 3 ). But in case of potassium level highest plant height (131.43cm) at 80 DAS, no. of seeds plant -1 (613.83), seed yield plant (36.57g), weight of 1000-seed (43.00g), seed yield (2.63 t ha -1 -1 -1 ) was obtained from 105kg K ha

(K 2 ),whereas the lowest no. of seeds plant -1 (514.33),seed yield plant (30.31g), seed yield (2.45 t ha -1 )was found from 126 kg Kha -1 (K ). The maximum plant height (142.67cm), head diameter (14.90cm.), no. of seeds plant 3 -1 -1 (717.67), seed yield plant

(43.25g), weight of 1000-seed (46.33g) and seed yield (3.19 t ha -1 ) were obtained with the combined effect of 21 March/105 kg K ha -1 (S 1 K )while the minimum no. of seeds plant -1 (512) and seed yield (2.08 t ha -1 2 ) found by sowing on22 May applying 126 kg K ha
