dc.description A Thesis submitted to the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE (MS) IN SOIL SCIENCE SEMESTER: JULY-DECEMBER, 2020 en_US
dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka to study the effect of zinc and sulphur on growth and yield of potato during November, 2019 to February, 2020. The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor A: Three levels of zinc fertilizer viz., Zn 0 = 0 kg ha -1 , Zn 1 = 2 kg ha = 4 kg ha -1 and Factor B: Three levels of sulphur viz., S 0 = 0 kg ha -1 , S 1 -1 = 15 kg ha = 25 kg ha -1 . The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Plant height, leaves number plant -1 , numbers of stem hill -1 , number of tubers hill -1 , average tuber weight, tuber yield per plot, tuber yield per hectare and grading of tuber on the basis of diameter were compared for different treatments. Results indicated that zinc and sulphur had significant influence on most of the growth parameters, yield and yield components of potato. The maximum tuber yield per hectare (24.72 t) was recorded from the treatment Zn whereas minimum tuber yield per hectare (23.24 t) was recorded from the treatment Zn 2 . On the other hand, maximum tuber yield per hectare (24.61 t) was recorded from the treatment S 0 whereas minimum tuber yield per hectare (23.46 t) was recorded from the treatment S 1 . In case of interaction effect of zinc and sulphur result observed that maximum number of tuber hill -1 (10.53), maximum average tuber weight (70.29 g), yield per plot of tuber (10.09 kg), tuber yield per hectare of potato (25.24 t) and 46.15% of maximum tuber grade in respect of 28-45 mm diameter were found from the treatment combination of Zn whereas minimum number of tuber hill -1 (7.40), average tuber weight (55.28 g), tuber yield per plot (8.98 kg), tuber yield per hectare (22.46 t) and 38.11% of minimum tuber grade in respect of 28-45 mm diameter were recorded from the treatment combination of Zn 0 S 0 . So, the combination of zinc fertilization, Zn 2 (4 kg ha -1 ) along with sulphur fertilization, S 1 (15 kg ha -1 ) provided better performance for all growth related parameters and yield with better grade of potato (BARI Alu-8). 0 and Zn -1 2 and S 2 2 S 1 en_US
