Abstract:
ABSTRACT
Rice blast caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is one of the most important diseases in rice growing
areas of the world. It is one of the most devastating rice diseases which can lead a complete failure
of the crop under severe infection. Development of durable blast resistant variety is the best option
to control the disease. Thirty rice germplasm, collected from Bangladesh Rice Research Institute
(BRRI) Gene bank and various districts of Bangladesh including one susceptible check, US2 were
evaluated to find out new sources of resistance and assess their diversity based on the reactions
against M. oryzae in uniform blast nursery (UBN) of BRRI during June 2019 to December 2020.
While five germplasm viz. Shakkhor Khora, Shompa Kathari (Indian Variety), Shail Dhan, BR
16, BRRI Dhan 30 were observed resistant and Kalijeera was found moderately resistant (disease
score 2-3). The 30 genotypes were grouped in 3 clusters. The grouping of some genotypes in same
cluster is based on their similar reaction against leaf blast. The results of this study can be useful
for the development of blast-resistant rice varieties.
