dc.description.abstract The objectives of this study were to describe the selected characteristics of the farmers; to determine the extent of use of best management practices by the farmers and to explore the contributions of the selected individual characteristics of the farmers with their use of best management practices. The study was conducted in two villages of Tetuljhora union under Savar upazila of Dhaka district. Data were collected by using interview schedule from the randomly selected 104 respondents during 15 July to 15 August, 2019. Descriptive statistics, multiple regression was used for analysis. Majority (70.2 percent) of the respondents had medium best management practices while 22.1 percent had higher and 7.7 percent had lower best management practices. Among nine selected farmers’ characteristics, level of education, extension contact, agricultural training and time spent in farming of the respondents had significant contribution with their use of best management practices. The remaining characteristics of the farmers, age, farm size, distance from home to local market, annual family income and experience in farming had no significant contribution with their use of best management practices. The findings of the study indicated that farmers’ use of best management practices has scope to increase. It is concluded that use of best management practices can be increased through increase the level of education, extension contact, agricultural training and time spent in farming. en_US
