An experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University farm,
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from March to July,
2014 to determine the effect of nitrogen and sulphur on growth and yield of
sesame. The experiment consisted of two factors having 4 levels each of nitrogen
(0, 75, 125, 175 kg N/ha) and sulphur (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg S/ha) laid out in
Spilt Plot design with three replications. Plant height, number of leaves, capsule
number, capsule length, seed per capsule, 1000 seed weight, seed yield and
harvest index were varied significantly with increasing N level upto 75 kg N/ha
(N
). The seed yield and harvest index were 1.38 t/ha and 29.43% respectively
when applied 75 kg N/ha. But the highest stover yield (3.81 t/ha) was recorded
with 175kg N/ha. On the other hand, plant height, capsule number, capsule length,
seed per capsule, 1000 seed weight, seed yield and harvest index were increased
significantly with increasing S level upto 50 kg S/ha (S

). The maximum seed
yield (1.31 t/ha) was obtained at 50 kg S/ha and the maximum stover yield (4.70
t/ha) was observed at 100 kg S/ha. The highest seed yield was recorded from the
combination of N

(175kg N/ha and 150 kg S/ha) produced the highest stover yield.
