dc.description A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Agriculture, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE IN AGRONOMY SEMESTER: JANUARY-JUNE, 2015 en_US
dc.description.abstract The experiment was carried out at Seed Testing Laboratory, Beej Bhaban, BADC, Gabtoly, Dhaka to select the suitable varieties and the suitable devices for the storage of T. Aman seeds at farmer’s level. Five T. Aman varieties viz: V 1 = BINA dhan7, V 2 =BRRI dhan33, V 3 =BRRI dhan34, V =BRRI dhan51 and V 5 =BRRI dhan52 and four storage devices viz: D 1 4 = Plastic drum, D = Steel drum, D 3 = Polythene in gunny bag, D = Gunny bag were used as treatment in this experiment. The experiment was carried out following completely randomized design with four replications. Data were collected in each month from January to July on moisture (%), germination (%), germination (%) after accelerated aging test, speed of germination, electric conductivity, seedling length, biomass production and imbibitions (%). The result revealed that BINA dhan7 showed the highest germination (83-86%) and highest seedling length (20-22.62 cm) and BRRI dhan52 showed the highest speed of germination (11.12-25.30) as well as the highest biomass production (0.175-0.207 gm/10 seedlings). Seeds stored in plastic drum performed better in maintaining significantly higher germination (82-93%), the highest speed of germination (26-55), the lowest electric conductivity (232-282 µm) for the storage period. On the other hand, seeds stored in gunny bag showed the lowest germination (75-82%, the lowest speed of germination (12.52-25.61), the highest electric conductivity (240-295 µm) at different months after preservation. Interaction of plastic drum × BRRI dhan7 gave the highest germination (83-95%) and interaction of plastic drum × BRRI dhan52 gave the highest speed of germination (30.58-56.00). From the present study, it may be concluded that BINA dhan7 and BRRI dhan52 as the variety, plastic drum as a storage device, and the interaction of D 1 V 1 4 (plastic drum× BINA dhan7) as well as D (Plastic drum × BRRI dhan52) performed better in maintaining the T. Aman seed quality during storage for six months (January-June) at the farm condition. 2 1 V 5 en_US
