dc.description.abstract The study was conducted at the Horticultural Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka during the period from May 2014 to October 2014. The experiment consisted of two factors. Factor A: Three levels of population density: D - 125000, D 2 -83333, D 3 - 62500 plants ha -1 and Factor B: four levels of phosphorus: P 0 - Control (0 kg), P 1 - 100 kg, P 2 -125 kg and P ii 3 - 150 kg P 2 O , respectively. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Population density and phosphorus levels showed significant variations with most of the parameters. In the case of population density the highest no. of spike (659896 ha -1 ) was recorded from D 1 5 and the lowest no. of spike (302240 ha ) from D 3 . For phosphorus, the highest no. of spike (515972 ha -1 ) was recorded from P 2 and the lowest no. of spike (372014 ha -1 ) from P . For combine effect the highest no. of spike (752708 ha -1 ) was from D 1 P 2 0 and the lowest (248958 ha . The highest benefit cost ratio (2.49) was noted from D 1 P and the lowest (1.08) from D 3 P 0. So, the use of higher population density (125000 plants ha 2 -1 -1 ) from D ) with 125 kg P ha -1 was the best for growth and flowering of golden rod. en_US
