Abstract:
The study was conducted in four villages namely East Mahmudpur, Hobipur,
Kodomtola and Khapara under Shariatpur sadar upazila at Mahmudpur Union to
determine the attitude of farmers towards women's empowerment. Ten
characteristics of the couples namely, age gap, political awareness gap, educational
gap, dowry, religious belief, male vanity, income gap, knowledge gap, social status
gap and cosmopoliteness gap were selected as dependent variable. A well-suctured
interview schedule was developed based on the objectives of the study for collecting
information. Among the
farmers;
the highest 44 percent belongs to the low level
attitude group followed by 31 percent in medium level and 25 percent in high level
attitude group. Among the farmers total 75 percent felt in low to medium level of
attitude group. Age gap, political awareness gap, dowry, religious belief, male vanity,
income gap, knowledge gap, social status gap and cosmopoliteness gap showed
significant negative relationship with attitude of farmers towards women's
empowerment. Only educational gap showed non-siificant positive relationship
with attitude of farmers towards women's empowerment.
