The study was
conducted in the Daulatkhan Upazila under Bhola District with the
main objective to assess the women participation in income generating activities.
Daulatkhan upazila consists of nine unions among them Saidpur, Bhabanipur and
Char Khalifa union were selected purposively as the locale of the study area. A list of
1017 women from the selected unions adjacent to the Children and Women Affairs
Officer of this locality was collected. Ten (10) percent of the populations were
randomly selected as the sample of the study by using random sampling method.
Thus, 102 women constituted the sample of the study. A structured interview schedule
was developed based on objectives of the study for collecting information. The
researcher himself collected data through personal contact. The independent variables
were: age, level of education, family size, farm size, annual family income,
organizational participation. cosmopoliteness, contact with development workers,
training exposure, credit received and problems faced in income generating activities,
while the dependent variable was participation in income generating activities. About
half (46.1 percent) of the respondents derived medium level participation followed by
43.1 percent low level participation and only 10.8 percent were high level
participation in income generation activities. It means that an overwhelming majority
(89.2 percent) of the respondent women had medium to low level participation in
income generating activities. Level of education, annual family income, organizational
participation, cosmopoliteness, contact with development workers and training
exposure had significant positive relationships with women participation in income
generating activities but problem faced in income generating activities had significant
negative relationship. |
