Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to: I) assess the job performance of the Jute
Development Officers (JDOs) of the Integrated HYV Jute and Jute Seed
Production project; II) determine and describe the selected characteristics of the
JDOs and III) examine their relationships/contribution with/to job performance.
Sixty eight JDOs of eight regions under the project constituted the population of
the study. Data were collected from all the 68 JDOs. The job performances of the
JDOs were assessed by self evaluation and supervisors' evaluation (Assistant
Directors). Spearman correlation coefficient "r" was computed to test the
relationship of the selected characteristics of the JDOs with their job performance.
Again step-wise multiple regression was used to find out the contribution of
selected characteristics of the JDOs to their job performance. The overall job
performance of the JDOs indicates that the majority (54%) of the JDOs had high
performance while 46% had medium job performance. Nobody had low job
performance. On the basis of Average Performance Index, familiarity with the
upazila ranked first followed by maintaining well behaviors with the farmers.
Timely organize and manage farmer's rally and field day ranked 3rd.
Relationships between the variables indicate that level of education, academic
achievement, service length, job facilities, farmers' problem awareness, training
exposure and job satisfaction of JDOs had positive and significant relationship
with their job performance. However, age, media contact and problem
confrontation of the JDOs had no significant relationship with their extent of job
performance. In step-wise multiple regression analysis farmers' problem
awareness, service length and level of education of the JDOs had significant
contribution to their job performance.
