The purpose of the study was to determine the extent of adoption of wheat
cultivation by the farmers and to explore the relationships between farmers'
characteristics and their adoption of wheat cultivation. Kaoaljani union under
Basail Upazila of Tangail district was the locale of the study. Data were
collected from 125 farmers randomly selected by using interview schedule during
10th February to 10th march 2006.
ABSTRACT
The finding revealed that about three-fourth (7i.2%) of the growers had medium
adoption, 13.6 percent had low and 15.2 percent had high adoption of wheat
cultivation .Computed 'r' value depicts that selected characteristics of the

the adoption of wheat cultivation. More than two-thirds (68 percents) of the
growers faced medium problems, 20 percent faced low and 12 percent faced high
problem confrontation regarding adoption of wheat cultivation. Ten problems
indicated by the growers, which they are confronting related to wheat cultivation.
Wheal growers confront s major problems in descending order or importance
were: (1) Lack of subsidy (2) Lack of sufficient machineries and tools for wheat
cultivation (3) Inadequate help from Sub-Assistant Agricultural Officcrfq)
Inadequate irrigation in dry season (5) Scarcity of modern variety of seed,
fertilizer and pesticides when they are needed. |
