dc.description.abstract The experiment was conducted at the farm of Sher-e-l3angla Agricultural University, Dhaka. Bangladesh during the period from March to May 2007 to study the effect of phosphorus and weed management on the growth and yield of mungbean. The experiment consisted of two factors: Factor A: four levels of phosphorus P0: 0kg P205; P,: 30kg P 205; P 2: 60 kg P205 and P): 90 kg P 20 5 ha1: Factor B: three levels of weeding: W0: No weeding; W1: One weeding; W2 : Two weeding. Phosphorus was found to show significant variation at different days after sowing (IS to 55 DAS) on studied parameters as plant height, number of leaves plant 1. number of flowers plant', total dry matter accumulation. number of pods plant'. thousands seed weight, seed yield ha and harvest index (%). But phosphorus could not show any significant effect on CGR and RGR values. Among the four levels of phosphorus P 2showed significantly the highest values on all the parameters. while the lowest values against all the corresponding parameters were recorded from P o . The highest values of seed yield and harvest index were recorded as (1.31 t ha) and (22.07%) which were obtained from 1 1 2 while the respective lowest values were (0.86 t h15 and (14.32%) recorded from P 0. Response of different weeding levels was also significant in all the study parameters except CGR and RGR. Among the three levels of weeding W2 (two weedings) performed best in all the parameters and W 0 performed the lowest. The highest yield (1.1! t hi') and the highest harvest index (20.48%) were obtained from W 2 while the lowest yield (1.03 t hi') and harvest index (18.12%) were obtained from W. Interaction effect of phosphorus and weeding had significant effect on all the studied parameters except CGR and RGR. The combination of phosphorus level P2 and the weeding level W 2 recorded the highest values in all the parameters except pod length and number of seeds podS' that were found in P 2 W1 The maximum (1.35 t hi') seed yield was recorded from P2W2 and the minimum (0.83 t hi') was recorded from P0W0. The maximum (23.36%) harvest index was recorded from P 2W2 and the minimum (13.55%) was recorded from P0W0. en_US
