A field experiment was conducted at the research farm of Shcr-c-Bangla Agricultural
Univ ersity, Dhaka. during December 2006 to February 2007 to stud) the effects of
nitrogen and mol) bdenum on the growth and yield of garden pea. 'I he experiment was
laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (ReBD) with three replications of
each treatment. The unit plot size was 5 m2 (2.5 III x 2.0 m). There were 15 treatments
combinations in the experiment comprising 5 levels of N (0. 30, 60. 90 & 120 kg/ha
designated as Nil. N,o. N6().NI)O& N 120. rcspcctiv ely) and 3 levels of Mo (0. 0.4 &0.8
kg/ha designated as Moo. MOo4 & MOl)R. rcspcctiv ely). The indiv idual and combined
effects of nitrogen (N) and molybdenum (Mo) on growth and yield of garden pea
plants were studied. 'I he individual and interaction effect of Nand Mo on growth and
) ield was found significant. Nitrogen (N) @ 90 kg/ha gave the highest number of
branches per plant. highest number of pods per plant highest pod length. highest
green and matured seed weight per 10 pods. highest green and matured pod) ield but
maximum plant height and number of seeds per pod were found under 120 kg N/ha.
In case of molybdenum application the highest plant height, highest number of
branches per plant highest pod length. highest seed weight per 10 pods w ere recorded
in 0.4 kg Mo/ha. Molybdenum (Mo) @ 0.8 kg/ha gave the highest fresh weight of
plant and highest fresh weight of pods. Ihc treatment combination of N120 .M004
produced the maximum plant height. highest number of pods per plant. highest fresh
weight of plant. but the treatment combination of 90 kg NQoMoo t gave the maximum
number of branches per plant. highest length of pod, highest number of seed per pod.
highest seed weight per 10 pods. highest pod ) ield, maximum P. K and S content in
plants. Lowest N. P. K and S content was found in control (NoMoo) treatment. From
the present findings it can be concluded that application of N @ 90 kg/ha along with
Mo @ 0.4 kg/ha is the most suitable combination to achiev e the maximum return
from garden pea plants. |
