ADOPTION OF MAIZE PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES BY THE FARMERS
RASHID, MD. MAHBUBUR
The main objectives of the study was to find out the extent of the adoption of maize production technologies by the farmers, to describe the selected characteristics of the maize growers and also to explore the relationships between selected characteristics of the growers and their adoption of maize production technologies. The study was conducted in a village named Durgapur under Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district. A total of 100 farmers were selected as sample for the study from a population of 251. Data were collected from the maize growers using personal interview schedule during the period 15 July to 15 August, 2005. Apart from descriptive statistical methods, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient analysis was used in order to analyze data to fulfill the objectives. Findings indicated that the majority (69 percent) of the growers had medium adoption of modern maize cultivation technologies while 30 percent had low adoption and only 1 percent high adoption. Out of ten selected characteristics of the growers, four namely education, area under maize cultivation, annual income, and extension contact had positive significant relationship and age had a negative significant relationship with their adoption of maize production technologies. The rest of the variables namely innovativeness, knowledge in maize cultivation, farm size, cosmopoliteness and agricultural training exposure did not show any significant relationships with their adoption of maize production technologies. Out of 12 problems faced by the farmers two problems in order of importance were: (i) non-availability of storage facilities at farmers' level and (ii) non-availability of hybrid seed.

ADOPTION OF MODERN AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES AND CLASSIFICATION OF THE ADOPTERS AT RAMRAIL UNION IN BRAHMAN BARIA DISTRICT
KHAN, AMINUL ISLAM
The main objectives of the study were: (i) to describe the selected characteristics of the farmers, (ii) to determine and describe the extent of use of modern technologies,
(iii) to classify the adopters on the basis of adoption of modern technologies, (iv) to explore the relationships of the selected characteristics of the farmers with their adoption of modern technologies. But the specific purpose was “Adoption of Modern Technologies and Classification of the Adopters”
The study was conducted in Sadar Upazila of Brahman Baria district. An interview schedule was used to collect needed information. Sample size of respondents was 90 randomly selected farmers and interviewed by the researcher himself through face to face interview. Statistical measurement like percentage, range, mean and standard deviation were used to interpret the data. Co-efficient of correlation was computed in order to explore the relationships between the concerned factors. The respondents showed a remarkable individuals difference in their characteristics. The category of respondent having middle age (53.3%), secondary level literacy rate(53.3%), medium family size(56.7%), medium income(46.7%), small farm size(40.0%), medium cosmopoliteness (52.2%), low organizational participation (47.8 %) and medium extension contact(48.9%). The findings reveals that 3.33% of farmers were innovator, 12.22% were early adopter, 34.44% were early majority, 34.44% were late majority and laggards were 15.57% for overall adoption. But incase of individual technologies the category varies supporting the generalization of one individual may be innovator in one innovation but laggard in another.
Relationship between education, annual income, farm size, cosmopolitenees, organizational participation, extension contact with their adoption of modern technologies was positively significant. . On the other hand, age, family size had insignificant relationship with their adoption of modern technologies

FARMERS’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS USE OF PESTICIDES
AMIN, MOHAMMAD ABDUL KADER
The main purpose of the study was to assess farmers’ attitude towards use of pesticides and also to explore the relationships between nine selected characteristics of the farmers’ with their attitude towards use of pesticides. Data were collected from 100 randomly selected farmers out of 500 farmers of Boliardi and Arha village under Bajitpur upazila during March to April 2006, through personal interview. Simple and direct questions with different scales were used to obtain information. Co-efficient of correlation (r) was computed in order to explore the relationships between the attitude towards use of pesticides of farmers and their nine selected characteristics. Seventy seven percent of the respondents had moderately favourable attitude, 10 percent had slightly favourable attitude and 13 percent had high favourable attitude towards use of pesticides. The correlation test showed that farm size and annual income had positive significant relationship; education, extension contact, organizational participation and knowledge on pesticides had negative significant relationship while age, family size, and training experience had no significant relationship with the farmers’ attitude towards the use of pesticides.

BRAC BENEFICIARIES’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS POULTRY REARING
WHAB, MOHAMMAD ABDUL
Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) is the largest NGO in Bangladesh. The present study deals with BRAC beneficiaries’ attitude towards poultry rearing. Attempts had been made: i) to determine and describe the selected characteristics of BRAC beneficiaries, ii) to determine and describe the extent of attitude towards poultry rearing by them, and iii) to explore the relationships between the selected characteristics of the BRAC beneficiaries with their extent of attitude towards poultry rearing. Five branches of Dhamrai area of BRAC was selected for the study. Out of 1000 BRAC beneficiaries, 100 respondents were selected randomly. Data were collected during April 2006, using interview schedule. The highest proportion (50%) of the respondents were medium aged, 44% of them were secondary level of education, 59% of the respondents were medium family size, 44% of the respondents belonged to the medium farm size, 53% of the respondents belonged to medium annual family income, 53% of the respondents belonged to the medium organizational participation, 66% of the respondents belonged to the medium cosmopolitanism, 54% of the respondents were medium extension contact, 59% of the respondents were medium knowledge on poultry rearing, 56% of the respondents were medium problem in poultry rearing. The highest proportion (68%) of the respondents had medium while 16 percent were low and 16 percent were high attitude towards poultry rearing activities. The study revealed that four characteristics of the respondents namely annual family income, cosmopolitanism, extension contact and knowledge on poultry rearing were significant positive relationship with their extent of attitude towards poultry rearing. Family size were negative relationship with their attitude towards poultry rearing. On the other hand, age, education, farm size, and organizational participation of the beneficiaries were no relationship with their extent of attitude towards poultry rearing.
