<description>INFLUENCE OF VERMICOMPOST ON GROWTH, YIELD AND PROCESSING QUALITY OF POTATO VARIETIES
CHANDRA, GOPAL
A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy research field, Sher-e-Bangla&#13;
Agricultural University, Dhaka from November 01, 2014 to April 30, 2015 to find out&#13;
the effect of 4 different vermicompost (Vm) levels viz., Vm&#13;
1&#13;
), Vm&#13;
3 &#13;
– (4 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) and Vm&#13;
4&#13;
 – (6 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
1&#13;
 - (control), Vm&#13;
)  on growth, yield and quality of 4 potato&#13;
varieties viz., V&#13;
1&#13;
-BARI TPS-1, V&#13;
2&#13;
- BARI Alu-28 (Lady Rosetta), V&#13;
- BARI Alu-29&#13;
(Courage), V&#13;
 - BARI Alu-25 (Asterix). The experiment was conducted in spilt plot&#13;
Design with 3 replications. The different levels of vermicompost had significant effect&#13;
on most of the growth, yield and quality contributing parameters of potato irrespective&#13;
of varieties. All parameters studied in this experiment were increased with the&#13;
increasing vermicompost levels except water percentage. The variety „BARI Alu-28‟&#13;
produced maximum yield (28.89 t ha&#13;
4&#13;
-1&#13;
) whereas, „BARI TPS-1‟ showed minimum&#13;
yield (22.95 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) irrespective of vermicompost levels and other growth, yield and&#13;
processing characters also influenced by the different varieties. The results also&#13;
revealed that the yield of potato varieties were increased with increasing&#13;
vermicompost levels. „BARI Alu-28‟ cultivated with vermicompost 6 t ha&#13;
 performed&#13;
the best results and the same variety with 4 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
 also showed the statistically similar&#13;
results in terms of growth, most of the yield and quality parameters. Among the 16&#13;
treatment combination maximum tuber weight (57.18 g) was produced in V&#13;
and&#13;
the variety Lady Rosetta  produced&#13;
 &#13;
highest yield (33.86 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), highest marketable&#13;
yield (28.78 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) and also produced maximum seed tuber (25.40 t ha&#13;
) when&#13;
cultivated with 6 t ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
vermicompost. Incase of dry matter, reducing sugar and starch&#13;
content, Lady Rosetta showed the best performance compared to those other varieties&#13;
when 6 t ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
vermicompost was applied.   &#13;

<title>EVALUATION OF HERBICIDAL EFFICACY AND RESIDUAL ACTIVITY ON DIRECT SEEDED BORO RICE</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/2455</link>
<description>EVALUATION OF HERBICIDAL EFFICACY AND RESIDUAL ACTIVITY ON DIRECT SEEDED BORO RICE
KAES, IMRUL
An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy field laboratory, Sher-e-Bangla&#13;
Agricultural University, Dhaka, from November 2014 to April 2015 to evaluate the&#13;
different herbicidal efficacy on weed control and growth &amp; yield of boro rice cv. BRRI&#13;
dhan50. The experiment comprised nine treatments viz. Acetachlor + Bensulfuran (Premix)&#13;
@&#13;
750&#13;
g&#13;
ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, Pyrazosulfuran-ethyl @ 150 g ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, Bispyribac Sodium @ 150 g ha&#13;
,&#13;
Pretilachlor @ 1 L ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, Pretilachlor+ Triasulfuran@ (1 L + 10 g) ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, Propyrisulfuran +&#13;
Propanil @ (0.5 L + 1 kg) ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, Propyrisulfuran + Propanil@ (0.38 L + 1.5 kg) ha&#13;
, Two&#13;
hand weeding (20 and 40 DAS) and Weedy check.The experiment was laid out in&#13;
randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Sixteen weed&#13;
species belonging to seven families were observed in the experimental field. Weed&#13;
population, weed dry weight and weed control efficiency were significantly influenced&#13;
by herbicidal treatments. The highest weed population and dry weight were observed in&#13;
unweededcontrol condition compared to other treatments. Application of&#13;
Propyrisulfuran + Propanil (0.38 L + 1.5 kg) ha&#13;
-1&#13;
showed the best performance to control&#13;
all kind of weeds found in the field and its residual activity remained upto 45 days.Yield&#13;
contributing characters and yield of BRRI dhan50 was significantly influenced by weed&#13;
control treatments. The highest number of effective tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
, grains panicle&#13;
, 1000grain&#13;
&#13;
weight, grain yield, straw yield and harvest index were obtained from the&#13;
application of Propyrisulfuran + Propanil (0.38 L + 1.5 kg) ha&#13;
-1&#13;
. Weed control had&#13;
pronounced influence on yield (5.50 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) of BRRI dhan50 and 46.55% yield was lost&#13;
in unweeded control condition. It can be concluded that application of Propyrisulfuran +&#13;
Propanil (0.38 L + 1.5 kg) ha&#13;
-1&#13;
may be used for the best performance of BRRI dhan50.&#13;
However, in practical point of view the application of Propyrisulfuran+ Propanil (0.5 L&#13;
+ 1 kg) ha&#13;
-1&#13;
 may consider for producing second highest yield of BRRI dhan50. &#13;

<title>EFFECT OF NITROGEN LEVELS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND SEED QUALITY OF WHEAT</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/2454</link>
<description>EFFECT OF NITROGEN LEVELS ON GROWTH, YIELD AND SEED QUALITY OF WHEAT
AKTER, MAHBUBA
A field experiment was conducted at the Research Field and Agronomy Laboratory of Shere-Bangla&#13;
&#13;
Agricultural University, Dhaka 1207 during the period from November, 2014 to&#13;
March, 2015 to evaluate the effect of nitrogen levels on growth, yield and seed quality of&#13;
wheat. The experiment comprised of five  nitrogen levels viz. (i) N&#13;
= Control (no nitrogen),&#13;
(ii) N&#13;
1&#13;
= 25% less nitrogen from the recommended dose, (iii) N&#13;
2&#13;
0&#13;
= Recommended dose of&#13;
nitrogen, (iv) N&#13;
3&#13;
= 25% higher nitrogen than recommended dose, (v) N&#13;
= 50% higher nitrogen&#13;
than recommended dose and four wheat varieties viz. (i) V&#13;
1&#13;
4&#13;
= BARI gom 21, (ii) V&#13;
= BARI&#13;
gom 23 (iii) V&#13;
3&#13;
 = BARI gom 24  and (iv) V&#13;
 = BARI gom 27.  The experiment was laid out&#13;
in a split plot design with three replications. Data were collected on different parameters of&#13;
growth, yield attributes, yield and seed quality of wheat. Results revealed that N&#13;
4&#13;
 (25%&#13;
higher nitrogen than recommended dose) gave the highest grain yield (3.41 t ha-1) which was&#13;
statistically at par with N&#13;
 (recommended dose of nitrogen) (3.29 t ha-1). This might be&#13;
attributed to highest number of spikes m&#13;
2&#13;
-2&#13;
(194.46), spike length (15.61 cm), number of&#13;
spikelets spike&#13;
-1&#13;
(20.91), number of grains spike&#13;
-1&#13;
 (48.17) and 1000-grain weight (47.08 g).&#13;
Out of 4 varieties V&#13;
3&#13;
 (BARI gom 24) showed highest grain yield (3.02 t ha&#13;
) which was&#13;
statistically similar with V&#13;
4&#13;
 (BARI gom 27) (2.89 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
-1&#13;
). The variety BARI gom 27 (V&#13;
) also&#13;
showed higher number of grains spike&#13;
-1&#13;
 (46.65) and 1000-grain weight (49.53 g). In respect&#13;
of seed quality, N&#13;
 (recommended dose) showed higher quality of seed which was&#13;
statistically similar to N&#13;
2&#13;
 (25% higher nitrogen dose than recommended) because this&#13;
nitrogen dose gave highest germination percentage (96.67 %), vigor index (10.34), shoot&#13;
length (19.94cm) and dry weight seedling&#13;
3&#13;
-1&#13;
 (0.19 g). In the case of variety, V&#13;
 (BARI gom&#13;
27) showed the higher seed quality attributes of germination percentage (95.20%), vigor&#13;
index (10.52) shoot length (20.51cm) and dry weight seedling&#13;
-1&#13;
 (0.18 g).  Regarding the&#13;
interaction of nitrogen doses and varieties, N&#13;
2&#13;
V&#13;
3&#13;
, N&#13;
2&#13;
V&#13;
4&#13;
 and N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
 were shown best in&#13;
producing quality seeds.  From the above results it was concluded that the recommended dose&#13;
and 25% higher nitrogen than recommended dose with BARI gom 27 shows better for&#13;
producing higher yield and quality seed.&#13;

JOHORA, MOSA. FIMATUZ
The experiment was conducted at the farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University,&#13;
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during the period of July to November 2014 to find out&#13;
the effect of seedlings hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 on yield and yield components of hybrid and inbred rice&#13;
varieties. The experiment comprised of two factors. Factor A: Rice variety (2)&#13;
designated as V&#13;
1&#13;
: Hybrid (Chamak); V&#13;
2&#13;
: Inbred (BRRI dhan62) and Factor B: Number&#13;
of seedlings hill&#13;
-1 &#13;
(5 levels) named as S&#13;
1&#13;
: 1 seedling hill&#13;
-1&#13;
, S&#13;
2&#13;
: 2 seedlings hill&#13;
: 3&#13;
seedlings hill&#13;
-1&#13;
, S&#13;
4&#13;
: 4 seedlings hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 and S&#13;
5&#13;
: 5 seedlings hill&#13;
-1&#13;
. The experiment was laid&#13;
out in split-plot design with three replications. Experimental results showed that&#13;
varieties had the significant effects on plant height, number of tillers hill&#13;
, dry weight&#13;
hill&#13;
-1&#13;
, total tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
, panicle length, number of filled and unfilled grains per panicle,&#13;
1000 seed weight, grain yield, straw yield and harvest index. The highest grain yield&#13;
(4.06 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) was observed from Chamak (hybrid) while the BRRI dhan62 (Inbred)&#13;
gave the lowest grain yield (3.04 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
-1&#13;
). The highest straw yield was observed from V&#13;
1&#13;
&#13;
(4.67 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) and the lower straw yield was recorded from V&#13;
2 &#13;
(4.21 t ha&#13;
). Number of&#13;
seedlings hill&#13;
-1 &#13;
also significantly affected all the parameters under study. The&#13;
maximum number of effective tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 was found from S&#13;
2 &#13;
(12.20), whereas the&#13;
minimum number of effective tillers hill&#13;
-1 &#13;
from S&#13;
5&#13;
 (10.27). The highest grain yield was&#13;
found from S&#13;
2 &#13;
(4.10 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), whereas the lowest grain yield from S&#13;
5&#13;
-1&#13;
 (2.93 t ha&#13;
). The&#13;
highest straw yield was found from S&#13;
2 &#13;
(4.80 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
), whereas the lowest straw yield&#13;
from S&#13;
5&#13;
 (4.14 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) which was statistically similar to S&#13;
4&#13;
 (4.21 t ha&#13;
). In case of&#13;
interaction effect of varieties and number of seedlings hill&#13;
-1&#13;
, the highest grain yield&#13;
was recorded from the combination of V&#13;
1&#13;
S&#13;
2&#13;
 (4.74 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) and the lowest grain yield&#13;
was found from V&#13;
2&#13;
S&#13;
5&#13;
 (2.55 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) which was statistically similar with V&#13;
2&#13;
 (3.79 t  &#13;
ha&#13;
-1&#13;
). From the above results it was appeared that Hybrid (Chamak) variety provided&#13;
best yield with 2 seedlings per hill&#13;
.&#13;
