<title>IMPACT OF COMMERCIAL DAIRY FARMS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIVELIHOOD IN RURAL AND URBAN SELECTED AREAS OF DHAKA DISTRICT IN BANGLADESH</title>

Dairy farming is an important and potential agricultural sector in Bangladesh.&#13;
Nearly 85% populations of the country are engaged in agriculture and livestock&#13;
sector. In Bangladesh, cows are the main source of milk and play a significant role&#13;
in maintaining a strong agricultural economy. This study conducted to 1 Thana, out&#13;
of 41 thanas for Urban and 1 Upazila out of 5 Upazilas for Rural commercial dairy&#13;
farms of Dhaka district were selected purposively. A total of sixty (60) commercial&#13;
dairy farms were randomly selected of which 30 from Khilgaon thana and 30 from&#13;
Keranigonj Upazila. Interviewed the farm owner’s from August 2019 to October&#13;
2019 using the structured questionnaire prepared for this study purpose. It&#13;
appeared from the study that Majority (60%) of the selected urban farm owner’s&#13;
age ranged from 41 to 50 years. On the other hand, Majority (47%) of the selected&#13;
rural farm owners’ age ranged from 31 to 40 years. Study revealed that majority&#13;
farmers of both urban and rural areas were male and minority was female. &#13;
Majority (45%) farmers of  both rural and urban areas have Primary education&#13;
followed by self-educated which was 25%, while 20% had  Secondary  education&#13;
and remaining 10% was graduated. The average number of animals per farm was 8&#13;
in urban while it was 12 in rural areas. Both the farmers of urban and rural areas&#13;
had majority (83%) Friesian cross and others Jersey cross &amp; indigenous cattle. Both&#13;
the urban and rural farmers used 90% artificial insemination, while the rest of 10%&#13;
used both artificial and natural services. The estimated cost of rearing urban and&#13;
rural dairy cow was Tk.165/cow/day and Tk. 120/cow/day, respectively, while the&#13;
return from them was Tk.330/cow/day and Tk.235/cow/day, respectively. The cost&#13;
and benefit ratio both of urban and rural dairy cow was 1: 2. Although the&#13;
commercial dairy cow owners face problems, the study observed that there were&#13;
possibilities and positive impact, particularly for the commercial dairy farms, in&#13;
developing their livelihood. The commercial dairy farms having minimum 10 no.&#13;
of Friesian cross or Jersey cross dairy cows and give minimum 12 liter milk per cow&#13;
would make the farm profitable and sustainable, which would help the quality&#13;
farmer’s life. Through overcoming the problems and supply all kinds of  facilities,&#13;
commercial dairy farming can play an important role in the improvement on&#13;
livelihood of urban &amp; rural peoples and also the development of agro-based&#13;
economy.

In our country, milk production is highly connected with grass and fodder management&#13;
and utilization. Good quality grass and fodder is always essential to reduce farm&#13;
management cost as well as increase milk yield. It also decreases feed cost, manure&#13;
handling and labour cost. There by continuous flow of milk yield depend on ability to&#13;
optimize grass and fodder yield and quality. The objectives of this study was to determine&#13;
the effect of feeding different fodders like German Grass, Para Grass, Napier Grass and&#13;
Maize on yield and composition of milk from cross breed 1.0313±0.00, 1.0313±0.00 and 1.0325±0.00, the Fat contents were 3.53±0.21, 4.02±0.20,&#13;
3.46±0.15 and 4.02±0.22, and the SNF contents were 8.12±0.05, 8.50±0.32, 8.40±0.20&#13;
and 8.56±0.08.The composition of milk in all groups showed significant changes. It was&#13;
found that Fat and SNF contents were increasing in trend in case of T2

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of probiotics as &#13;
supplemented feed additives in cattle production. A total of 9 cross bred bull &#13;
calves (three for each treatment) were assigned to the three experimental dietary &#13;
treatments. Experimental groups consisted of control T&#13;
1&#13;
probiotics), T&#13;
2&#13;
 (fed probiotic containing bacteria culture) and T&#13;
3&#13;
 (basal diet with no &#13;
 which were fed &#13;
probiotics with bacteria and yeast both culture throughout the experimental &#13;
period. Compared to control, inclusion of probiotic increased (P&lt;0.05) total live &#13;
weight gain.  Significantly (P&lt;0.05) lowest glucose level found was in probiotic &#13;
group which indicates better fiber digestion and better weight gain. Significant &#13;
difference (P&lt;0.05) was found in LDL concentration and triglyceride among the &#13;
trial group. Probiotic groups had lower LDL concentration and triglyceride than &#13;
the control one. In addition, inclusion of probiotic resulted significant (P&lt;0.05) &#13;
increases in haematological parameters like haemoglobin, white blood cell and &#13;
Erythrocyte proportion as well as PCV and MCV. However, Probiotics had no &#13;
effect on serum cholesterol and HDL levels. Results indicate that partial &#13;
substitution of probiotics improve growth performance by improving fiber &#13;
digestion and modulating immune status of cattle.

The production and reproduction profile, feeds and feeding and troop&#13;
management of Rhesus Monkey studied in captive condition at Bangladesh&#13;
National Zoo in this experiment. For these purposes, 48 Rhesus monkey were&#13;
parted with 2 troop and each troop contain 24 of monkey of 18 female and 6 male&#13;
monkey were used during June 15&#13;
th&#13;
 to August 15&#13;
th&#13;
, 2019 for a period of 3 month.&#13;
Require amount of balance food that supplied to the Rhesus Monkey contain&#13;
boiled egg, bread, banana, apple, papaya, pine apple, ground nut, cucumber and&#13;
gram But we had made little change the food component for observing their&#13;
health condition and breeding performance. We had replaced pine apple to&#13;
mango and added Citrus food such as orange. From the study it was followed by&#13;
Prevalence rate of cage(1) was 33.33% and Prevalence rate of cage(2) was&#13;
20.83%. The infection of virus not found, infection rate of bacteria was 4.16%,&#13;
parasite was 12.5% and fungal was 14.58%. The average length of estrous cycle&#13;
was 26.9 day for cage(1) and 29.8 day for cage(2) also include the average  &#13;
duration of gestation length was 157.10 days for cage(1) and 164.5 days for&#13;
Cage(2). It is concluded and recommended that a balance ration used to be fed&#13;
with proper management systems to keep unique health status along with&#13;
productive and reproductive well-being of the Rhesus Monkey at Bangladesh&#13;
National Zoo.
