A feeding trial was conducted on 150-day-old Lohman meat broiler chicks for a period&#13;
of 28 days in the Poultry Farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. The&#13;
aim of the study was to assess the efficiency of dietary carrot powder supplementation&#13;
on the production index and health status of commercial broiler chicken. The chicks&#13;
were assigned randomly to five treatment groups comprising of T&#13;
1&#13;
&#13;
(Antibiotic), T&#13;
3&#13;
 (0.5% Carrot Powder), T&#13;
4&#13;
XV&#13;
 &#13;
 (1% Carrot Powder) and T&#13;
5&#13;
 (1.5% Carrot&#13;
Powder) randomly. Treatments were replicated thrice with 10 chicks per replicate. The&#13;
results showed that dietary supplementation of carrot powder had no significant&#13;
(P&gt;0.05) difference on feed consumption, body weight gain and final live weight of&#13;
broiler compared to control group. Higher feed consumption found in T&#13;
2&#13;
&#13;
(2546.80±23.09g) group compared to other groups. However, superior final live weight&#13;
(1859.50±34.83g) obtained in T&#13;
4&#13;
 group where birds fed with 1% carrot powder&#13;
compared to those of antibiotic and control group. Improved FCR value (1.36±0.03)&#13;
found in both T&#13;
3 &#13;
and T&#13;
5&#13;
 group which is statistically non-significant (P&gt;0.05) with the&#13;
values of other groups. Dietary supplementation of carrot powder had significant&#13;
(P&lt;0.05) effect on the dressing percentage of broiler compared to control group.&#13;
Highest dressing percentage (75.23±0.76) obtained in 1% carrot powder (T&#13;
4&#13;
)&#13;
supplementation group. Dietary supplementation of carrot powder had significant&#13;
(P&lt;0.05) effect on the relative weight of spleen but had no significant (P&gt;0.05) effect&#13;
on relative weight of bursa in different groups. Birds supplemented with 1% carrot&#13;
powder showed significantly (P&lt;0.05) higher spleen weight (2.66± 0.16g) and 0.5%&#13;
carrot powder (T&#13;
3&#13;
) showed insignificantly (P&gt;0.05) higher bursa weight (3.08±0.79g).&#13;
The relative weight of liver and heart of different groups showed that there was no&#13;
significant (P&gt;0.05) difference but relative weight of gizzard showed significant&#13;
(P&lt;0.05) difference among the groups. The superior weight of liver was 48.92±2.71g&#13;
in T&#13;
5 &#13;
(1.5% carrot powder), gizzard and heart were 48.92±0.51g and 12.17±1.52g in T&#13;
4&#13;
&#13;
(1% carrot powder) respectively. The glucose, cholesterol and hemoglobin&#13;
concentration had no significant (P&gt;0.05) difference among all groups but&#13;
comparatively lower glucose (16.03±0.27m.mole/L) in T&#13;
5&#13;
, lower cholesterol&#13;
(4.90±0.40m.mole/L) &amp; hemoglobin (6.60±0.13m.mole/L) level was found in T&#13;
4&#13;
&#13;
group. It is evident from this trial that birds fed with 1% carrot powder supplemented&#13;
diet achieved superior result because of superior final body weight, FCR, dressing&#13;
percentage and internal organ weight compared to control and antibiotic groups. So&#13;
carrot powder can be use as natural feed additive for the replacement of antibiotic in&#13;
broiler production.

A feeding trial was conducted on 150 day-old Lohman meat broiler chicks for a&#13;
period of 28 days in the poultry farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University,&#13;
Dhaka. The aim of the study was to assess the efficacy of copper sulphate and zinc&#13;
supplementation. The production indexes viz. feed intake, body weight, body weight&#13;
gain, FCR, dressed weight, dressing percentage, internal organs weight, hematological&#13;
parameters and survivability of broiler on three replication of five treatments group&#13;
containing 10 birds each group was recorded and compared.The chicks were assigned&#13;
to 5 treatments groups of T&#13;
1&#13;
 (control), T&#13;
2&#13;
 (antibiotic), T&#13;
3&#13;
 (CuSo&#13;
 + Zn (8mg +30mg))&#13;
and T&#13;
4&#13;
 (CuSo&#13;
4&#13;
 + Zn (12mg +40mg)) and T&#13;
5&#13;
(CuSo&#13;
4&#13;
4&#13;
 + Zn (16mg +50mg))&#13;
randomly.The results showed that there was significant difference (P&lt;0.05) on the&#13;
feed intake, final live weight, glucose, cholesterol, internal organs and hematological&#13;
parameters among different treatment groups. The higher body weight found in CuSo&#13;
&#13;
+ Zn (8mg +30mg)T&#13;
 treated group compared to other groups and values were&#13;
followed in an ascending order in T&#13;
3&#13;
4&#13;
,T&#13;
5&#13;
 T&#13;
2&#13;
, and T&#13;
 group. The dressing percentage,&#13;
body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, showed no significant (P&gt;0.05) difference&#13;
among all treatment groups. The better FCR (1.33±0.05) found inT&#13;
1&#13;
group. The&#13;
dressing percentage in T&#13;
 (76.00±0.11) group was higher than other group. The result&#13;
indicated that effects of supplementation of copper sulphate and zinc in blood&#13;
constituents had significant effect except monocyte, eosinophil, basophil, and MCHC&#13;
concentration which were non-significant (P&gt;0.05). The control group (T&#13;
5&#13;
) showed&#13;
higher values of White blood cell (WBC) than other treated group. Higher feed intake&#13;
found in T&#13;
 (2499.62±8.83g) group compared to other groups. However, superior&#13;
final live weight (1856.67±78.38g) obtained in T&#13;
5&#13;
3&#13;
3&#13;
2&#13;
 group where birds fed with CuSo&#13;
&#13;
+ Zn (8mg +30mg) compared to those other treatment and control group. Birds fed&#13;
with CuSo&#13;
4&#13;
 + Zn (8mg +30mg)T&#13;

 supplemented diet achieved superior result.

A feeding trial was conducted on 200 day-old Lohman meat broiler chicks for a period&#13;
of 35 days in the poultry farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka. The&#13;
aim of the study was to assess the efficiency of dietary organic Se, inorganic Se and&#13;
their combined dose on the production index, blood parameters and immunity of&#13;
commercial broiler chicken. The chicks were assigned to 4 treatment groups comprising&#13;
of T&#13;
1&#13;
 (control), T&#13;
2&#13;
 (1.5ml/l organic Se), T&#13;
3&#13;
XIII&#13;
 &#13;
 (0.75ml/l inorganic Se) and T&#13;
4&#13;
 (combined&#13;
Se) randomly. Treatments were replicated five times with 10 chicks per replication. The&#13;
results showed that dietary supplementation of organic Se, inorganic Se and their&#13;
Combined dose had significant (P&lt;0.05) difference on feed consumption, body weight&#13;
gain, final live weight, dressing percentage of broiler compared to control group. Higher&#13;
feed consumption found in T&#13;
4&#13;
 (1126.40±18.99g) group compared to other groups.&#13;
However, superior final live weight (2257.66±27.95g) obtained in T&#13;
4&#13;
 group where birds&#13;
fed with combined dose of Se compared to those other treatment and control group.&#13;
Improved FCR value (1.46±.00) found in T&#13;
3&#13;
 group which is statistically significant&#13;
(P&lt;0.05) with the values of other groups. Dressing percentage is also higher in T&#13;
3&#13;
&#13;
(75.10±0.90) group where birds fed with 0.75ml/l inorganic Se. Dietary&#13;
supplementation of organic Se, inorganic Se and their combined dose had no significant&#13;
(P&gt;0.05) effect on the abdominal fat weight in different treatment groups. Birds&#13;
supplemented with combined dose of Se (T&#13;
4&#13;
) showed insignificantly (P&gt;0.05) higher&#13;
abdominal fat weight (31.90±1.603g).The glucose concentration had no significant&#13;
(P&gt;0.05) difference among all treatment groups but cholesterol concentration had&#13;
significant (P&gt;0.05) difference among all treatment groups and comparatively lower&#13;
cholesterol level 143.60±15.79mg/dl was found in 0.75ml/l inorganic Se (T&#13;
3&#13;
)&#13;
supplemented group. In addition, the hematological parameters including white blood&#13;
cell (WBC), lymphocyte and granulocyte which were significantly (P&lt;0.05) lower in&#13;
organic se, inorganic se and their combined dose groups compared to control group.&#13;
Diets supplemented with organic se, inorganic se and their combined dose had no&#13;
significant (P&gt;0.05) effect on blood parameters compared to control group. Birds fed&#13;
with 0.75ml/l inorganic se (T&#13;
3&#13;
 &#13;
) supplemented diet achieved superior result.

A total of 150 day-old Cobb 500 broiler chicks were reared in Sher e-Bangla&#13;
&#13;
Agricultural Universit y Poultry Farm, Dhaka. The present&#13;
study was designed to evaluate the productive performance and&#13;
health status of commercial broiler chicks fed diet containing graded&#13;
levels of FS (Fenugreek Seed) compared to antibiotic based diet.&#13;
Chicks were distributed randoml y in a complete randomized design&#13;
into 5 experimental groups of 3 replicates (10 chicks with each&#13;
replications).One of the 5 experimental group was fed this diet as&#13;
control while, the remaining four groups were fed diet with 3 levels&#13;
of FS (1, 1.5 and 2%) and antibiotic. The results obtained revealed&#13;
that the body weight was significant (P&lt;0.05) and the dressing&#13;
percentage was also significant (P&lt;0.05) by the dietary inclusion of&#13;
FS as compared to control fed broilers. However, a linear increase in&#13;
body weight was found with the increase in FS level in the diet.&#13;
Birds fed 1.5% FS diets achieved superior body weights&#13;
(1528.33&#13;
a&#13;
±57.468) compared to those of the control and antibiotic&#13;
group. Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) was non-significant but feed&#13;
consumption was significantl y higher (2289.67&#13;
a&#13;
±2.603) in 1% FS&#13;
treated group in comparison to others. The relative weight of spleen&#13;
and bursa of different  groups showed that there was no significant&#13;
(P&gt;0.05) difference between the groups. In addition, the present&#13;
study showed that feeding dietary Fenugreek seed had no significant&#13;
(P&gt;0.05) effects on liver, gizzard, intestine and heart weight among&#13;
the treatments.  The level of Cholesterol was significantl y (p&lt;0.05) &#13;
lower in fenugreek treated group but no significant differences in&#13;
glucose level. The results of hematological studies showed no&#13;
significant (P&gt;0.05) differences due to supplementation of Fenugreek&#13;
seed, except Hemoglobin, Red blood cell (RBC), White blood cell&#13;
(WBC), Lymphocyte which were significantl y affected (p&lt;0.05)&#13;
compared with control and antibiotic. However, addition of FS to&#13;
broiler chicks diets showed significant (p&lt;0.05) difference in&#13;
bacterial colony count among the groups. The FS supplementing&#13;
groups showed lower number of E. coli and Salmonella sp. and&#13;
higher number of Lactobacillus sp. compared to control group. &#13;
Treatments with FS significantl y (P&lt;0.05) increased Newcastle&#13;
disease (ND) titre.
