<title>MINIMIZATION OF NITROGEN ON YIELD AND GRAINQUALITY OF SCENTED RICE</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/3094</link>
<description>MINIMIZATION OF NITROGEN ON YIELD AND GRAINQUALITY OF SCENTED RICE
ARIN, MST. EFAT AFROZ
The study was conducted in the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural&#13;
University, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka during the period from June to December&#13;
2017 to assess the minimization of nitrogen on yield and grain quality of scented&#13;
rice. Scented rice cultivars Kalizira, BRRI dhan34, Begun Bichi and Sada Sanne&#13;
were used as the test crops in this experiment. The experiment consisted of two&#13;
factors: Factor A: Levels of nitrogen (4 levels) as- N&#13;
1&#13;
: 37.5 kg N ha&#13;
: 40.0 kg&#13;
N ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, N&#13;
3&#13;
: 42.5 kg N ha&#13;
-1&#13;
, N&#13;
4&#13;
: 45 kg N ha&#13;
-1&#13;
; and Factor B: Scented rice variety (4&#13;
varieties) as- V&#13;
1&#13;
: Kalizira, V&#13;
2&#13;
: BRRI dhan34, V&#13;
3&#13;
: Begun Bichi and V&#13;
4&#13;
: Sada Sanne.&#13;
The two factors experiment was laid out in split-plot design with three&#13;
replications. The four levels of N were assigned in the main plot and 4 scented&#13;
rice varieties in the sub-plot. Data were recorded on yield contributing characters,&#13;
yield and quality of scented rice and statistically significant variation was recorded&#13;
for most of the studied characters for different treatments. Results revealed that&#13;
nitrogen and/or different varieties had significant effect on most of the yield and&#13;
quality contributing parameters. Effective tillers, filled grains, weight of milled&#13;
rice, protein content, proline content and grain 2-AP content increased with&#13;
increasing nitrogen level upto a certain level. But N level had no significant effect&#13;
on 1000 grains weight, harvest index and amylose content among the four scented&#13;
rice varieties. Among the treatment combinations, the highest number of effective&#13;
tillers hill&#13;
-1&#13;
 (15.40) was found from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
2&#13;
-1&#13;
, N&#13;
2&#13;
 and the lowest number (8.40) from N&#13;
1&#13;
&#13;
treatment combination. The highest grain yield (3.47 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) was found from N&#13;
3&#13;
,&#13;
whereas the lowest (1.43 t ha&#13;
-1&#13;
) was recorded from N&#13;
1&#13;
V&#13;
3&#13;
 treatment combination.&#13;
The highest protein content (9.20%) was recorded from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
4&#13;
 and the lowest&#13;
(7.04%) was observed from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
3&#13;
 treatment combination. The highest proline&#13;
content (25.54 mg g&#13;
-1&#13;
) was observed from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
2&#13;
, while the lowest (18.08 mg g&#13;
)&#13;
was found from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
3&#13;
 treatment combination. The highest grain 2-AP content&#13;
(1.06 µg g&#13;
-1&#13;
) was recorded from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
3&#13;
 and the lowest (0.78 µg g&#13;
-1&#13;
) was observed&#13;
from N&#13;
3&#13;
V&#13;
1&#13;
 treatment combination. Data revealed that 40.0 kg N ha&#13;
 scented&#13;
rice variety BRRI dhan34 showed best performance when considered yield with&#13;
protein, amylose, proline and 2-AP content. So, Bangladeshi rice growers can&#13;
produce high quality aromatic rice through 11.11% minimization of nitrogen&#13;
without sacrificing its yield. &#13;

<description>SEED YIELD AND QUALITY OF MUNGBEAN AS AFFECTED BY SEED PRIMING
HAQUE, MD. AMINUL
An experiment was carried out at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU),&#13;
Dhaka, Bangladesh during the period from November 2017 to February 2018 to study&#13;
the seed yield and quality of mungbean as affected by seed priming. The whole&#13;
experiment was conducted in two different phases; the first at field condition and&#13;
second in the Laboratory. Two varieties of mungbean viz. V&#13;
1&#13;
 (BARI mung 6) and V&#13;
&#13;
(BARI mung 8) and different priming chemicals including control viz. T&#13;
 (control; No&#13;
priming), T&#13;
1&#13;
 (seed priming with water), T&#13;
2&#13;
 (seed priming with PEG) and T&#13;
 (seed&#13;
priming with Mannitol) were considered as treatments of the experiment. The&#13;
experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three&#13;
replications. The data on different parameters at field level and laboratory condition&#13;
were recorded. Collected data were statistically analyzed. Variety, seed priming&#13;
treatments and their combination showed significant influence on different growth&#13;
and yield parameters. The highest grain yield ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
(1299.90 kg) and percent seedling&#13;
emergence (84.20%) were found from V&#13;
 (BARI mung 6) whereas the lowest grain&#13;
yield ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
1&#13;
(1201.05 kg) and percent seedling emergence (81.34%) was from V&#13;
 (BARI&#13;
mung 8). Similarly, the highest grain yield ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
(1523.40 kg) and highest percent&#13;
seedling emergence (91.45%) were achieved from the priming treatment, T&#13;
 (seed&#13;
priming with Mannitol) compared to control. Regarding, interaction effect of variety&#13;
and seed priming treatments, the highest number of branches plant&#13;
-1&#13;
 (2.70, 4.60 and&#13;
5.12 at 25, 40 and 55 DAS, respectively), number of pods plant&#13;
-1&#13;
 (26.60), 1000 seed&#13;
weight (51.12 g), grain weight plant&#13;
-1 &#13;
(15.30 g) and grain yield ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
(1572.20 kg) were&#13;
found from the treatment combination, V&#13;
1&#13;
T&#13;
3 &#13;
while the lowest from V&#13;
. The lowest&#13;
days to 50% flowering (38.67) and days to 80% pod formation (48.67) were also&#13;
found from the treatment combination of V&#13;
1&#13;
T&#13;
. The highest percent seedling&#13;
emergence (92.30%) was also found from V&#13;
1&#13;
T&#13;
3 &#13;
3&#13;
whereas the lowest (70.75%) was&#13;
from the V&#13;
2&#13;
T&#13;
0&#13;
. It can be concluded that the treatment combination of V&#13;
can be&#13;
considered as the best considering all other treatment combinations. &#13;

1&#13;
&#13;
(560.63 kg) was obtained from G&#13;
2 &#13;
the highest seed weight ha&#13;
(100 ppm) where the lowest results on respected&#13;
parameters were found from G&#13;
0 &#13;
(Control) treatment. Regarding, plant spacing the&#13;
highest seed yield ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
(439.98 kg) was attained from the treatment of S&#13;
2 &#13;
(30 cm ×15&#13;
cm) where the lowest results on respected parameter was achieved from the S&#13;
1 &#13;
(30 cm&#13;
×10 cm) treatment. In terms of combined effect of GA&#13;
3 &#13;
and plant spacing, the highest&#13;
number of seeds plant&#13;
-1 &#13;
(3.37 g), highest seed yield plot&#13;
-1 &#13;
(108.08 g) and highest seeds&#13;
ha&#13;
-1 &#13;
(750.54 kg) were found from the treatment combination of G&#13;
2&#13;
