<title>COMBINING ABILITY AND GENE ACTION IN A 7x7 F2 HALF DIALLEL POPULATION OF Brassica napus L.</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/1060</link>
<description>COMBINING ABILITY AND GENE ACTION IN A 7x7 F2 HALF DIALLEL POPULATION OF Brassica napus L.
OMY, SUMAIYA HAQUE
Twenty one F2 progenies derived from a 7x7 diallel crosses along with parents were evaluated&#13;
at experimental site of Sher -e- Bangla Agricultural University for ten yield and yield&#13;
contributing traits. Due to significant genotypic effects for all the traits, genetic analyses were&#13;
performed on F2 progenies including analyses of combining ability and genetic components.&#13;
Out of 21 Fjs, the combinations Nap-20 12x Nap-2022, Nap_2037xNap.-206, Nap-I 79xNap-&#13;
206 and Nap-248xNap-2012 showed desirable negative combining ability for the characters&#13;
of shorter plant height. Nap_248xNap-179. Nap-2057xNap20I2 were good specilic&#13;
combiner for early flowering. The hybrid Nap248xNap1 79 was the best for early flowering.&#13;
The cross Nap_2037xNap_2022 was the best for number of primary branches/plant, number of&#13;
secondary branches, number of siliquae/plant and yield/plant. The cross Nap-206 x Nap-2057&#13;
and Nap_248xNap_2057 were the best for siliqua length and number of seeds/siliqua,&#13;
respectively. For 1000 seed weight the hybrids Nap-I 79xNap_2057 combination is best. The&#13;
crosses Nap_248x Nap-2022 and Nap_179x Nap-206 were found to be the best for higher oil&#13;
content %. The parent Nap-2022 was the best general combiner for early flowering, number&#13;
of primary branches/plant. The parent Nap-248 was the best for 1000 seed weight. Two&#13;
parents Nap- 179 and Nap-257 were good general combiner for oil content %. On the basis of&#13;
avcragc score and rank position, the hybrid Nap2037xNap2022 was the best spccific&#13;
combiner for most of the important characters. The mean sum of square due to SCA was&#13;
significant for all traits indicating that the non-additive gene actions were predominant for the&#13;
expression of these characters. The significant mean sum of square due to GCA was also&#13;
observed for the traits indicating that non additive gene actions were also prevailed. The&#13;
higher magnitude of SCA variance was observed than that of GCA variance for all the traits.&#13;
The Vr-Wr graph indicates over dominance (a&gt;O) for number of primary and secondary&#13;
branches per plant, number of seeds per siliqua and oil content. Partial dominance (a&gt;0) was&#13;
observed for plant height, days of flowering, number of siliquae per plant, siliqua length,&#13;
thousand seed weight and seed yield per plant.

<title>CELL COMPATIBILITY ANALYSIS IN POMATO (Solanum tuberosum L. and Solanwn lycopersicum L.)</title>
<link>http://localhost:8080/handle/123456789/1059</link>
<description>CELL COMPATIBILITY ANALYSIS IN POMATO (Solanum tuberosum L. and Solanwn lycopersicum L.)
NUSRAT, MOLLIKA FATIMA
A field experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla&#13;
Agricultural University, Dhaka, during November 2013 to April 2014. Four&#13;
potato (Solanurn tuberosum L.) and three tomato genotypes (Solanum lycopersicum&#13;
L.) were studied in the present study. The objectives of the study were&#13;
compatibility analysis of tomato and potato by making pomato plants using cleft&#13;
grafting and to assess the magnitude of genetic divergence in pomato&#13;
combinations, association among the characters and their contribution to yield.&#13;
The analysis of variance indicated significantly higher amount of variability&#13;
among the combinations for all the characters. Considering genetic parameters&#13;
high genotypic co-efficient of variation (GCV) was observed for, fruit per cluster,&#13;
fruit per plant, tuber per plant and fruit yield per plant whereas days to first&#13;
flowering, days to 50% flowering and tuber yield per plant showed low CCV.&#13;
High heritability with high genetic advance in percent of mean was obsen'ed for&#13;
number of fruits per cluster, number of fruits per plant, tuber per plant and fruit&#13;
yield per plant and tuber yield per plant indicating that these traits were under&#13;
additive gene control and selection for genetic improvement for these traits would&#13;
be effective. The results obtained, showed that fruit yield per plant had high&#13;
positive significant relation with plant height, cluster per plant, fruits per cluster.&#13;
fruits per plant but high negative significant relation with fruit length and fruit&#13;
diameter. Days to 50% flowering, number of branches per plant and fruit per&#13;
cluster had high positively direct effect on yield of tomato. Fruit weight and fruit&#13;
length had high negative direct effect on yield of tomato. So, these were found to&#13;
be important characters and could be used on improvement for yield. The highest&#13;
mean total yield per plant was found in P2TI, P4TI, P3TI and in PITI&#13;
respectively. It means TI (BARI Tomato- I 1) showed the best compatibility with&#13;
all the local potato varieties except P4 (Pakri Alu(Tcl). So, BAR! Tomato-I I&#13;
could be recommended to the pomato growers with local potato varieties.

<description>GENETIC VARIABILITY AND CHARACTER ASSOCIATION IN F5 POPULATION OF Brassica napus L.
MILl, SAVEDA MOSAMMAD SALWA KHATUN
A field experiment was conducted with 66 F5 genotypes of Brassica napus L. at the&#13;
experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka to study the genetic&#13;
diversity, variability, correlation and path coefficient analysis during November 2013 to&#13;
February 2014. The genotypes were found significantly variable for most of the&#13;
characters. Comparatively phenotypic variances were higher than the genotypic variances&#13;
for all the characters studied. Also PCV were higher than the GCV for all the characters&#13;
studied. Number of secondary branch, thousand seed weight, number of primary branch,&#13;
number of siliqua per plant and seed yield per plant showed high broad base heritability.&#13;
The significant positive correlation with seed yield per plant was found in number of&#13;
siliqua per plant. siliqua length, number of seed per siliqua and thousand seed weight.&#13;
Path coefficient analysis revealed that 50% flowering, number of siliqua per plant.&#13;
number of seed per siliqua and thousand seed weight had the positive direct effect on&#13;
yield per plant. The genotypes were grouped into six clusters. The highest inter cluster&#13;
distance was observed between cluster IV and VI and the maximum intra cluster distance&#13;
was found in cluster V. Considering group distance and other agronomic performance&#13;
genotypes 012. G14. G15. G16, 017. 022 and 024 might be suggested for future&#13;
hybridization program.
