The objectives of this study were to determine and describe the selected socioeconomic

characteristics of homestead vegetables growers, determine the use of
different practices of ITK by the rural women and explore the contribution of the
selected socio-economic characteristics of the farm women to their extent of use of
different ITK practices. Data were collected from randomly selected 106 women
farmers of four villages namely, Kamarpara, Mussudi purbo para, Nollobazar and
Gopalbari of Dhanbari upazila under Tangail district by using structured interview
schedule during 15 September to 10 November, 2020. Data indicates that the highest
proportion (73.6%) of the homestead growers fell under the medium ITK user’s
category, while 14.2 percent had high users and 12.3 percent had low ITK users for
homestead vegetables production respectfully. Moreover, majority (85.9%) of the
homestead vegetables producer farmers had medium to low ITK users. Family size,
media exposure and cosmopoliteness of homestead vegetables women farmers had
significant relationship with their extent of use of ITK while age, education, annual
family income, farm size, experience in homestead vegetables production, income
from vegetable cultivation, duration of training and innovativeness had no significant
relationship with ITK users for homestead vegetables production. Finally, this study
offered some theoretical and practical recommendations about the extent of use of
ITK for homestead vegetables production.

ISLAM, SAZEDUL
The present study was mainly designed to assess the benefits of Bangabandhu Bridge for
agricultural production and marketing and to explore the relationships of each of the
selected characteristics of the farmers with their perceived benefits of Bangabandhu
Bridge for Agricultural production and Marketing. The study was conducted in randomly
selected three villages of three unions of Ullapara Upazila under Sirajganj district of
Bangladesh. Survey revealed that all the farmers of the study area perceived medium to
high benefits of Bangabandhu Bridge for agricultural production and marketing. Finding
of the study showed that age, farm size, farming experience, annual agricultural income
and extension media contact of the farmers had significant relationship with their
perceived benefits of Bangabandhu Bridge for agricultural production and marketing.
Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that agricultural advisory service
providing organizations should provide necessary support to the younger farmers having
lower farm size, lower farming experience, lower annual agricultural income and lower
extension media contact to increase their perception on the benefits of Bangabandhu
bridge for agricultural production and marketing.

The objectives of this study were to describe the selected characteristics of farmers; to
assess the extent of problems encountered in catfish culture by the farmers; to explore
the contribution among each of the selected characteristics of farmers with their
problems encountered and to compare the problems encountered by the farmers in
catfish culture. The study was conducted with randomly selected 120 catfish cultivars
in Trishal upazila under Mymensingh district. A pre-tested interview schedule was
used to collect data from the respondents during 24
th
March, 2020 to 25
April, 2020.
Problems encountered in catfish culture was the dependent variable and its was
measured by on basis of problem encountered scores. Problems encountered in catfish
culture and the 11 selected characteristics of the respondents contributed the
independent variables of the study. Multiple regression was used to examine the
contribution of the selected characteristics of the respondents. The majority (60.00%)
of the farmers encountered medium problem while 22.50% percent of the farmers
encountered low problem. Comparatively few farmers (17.50%) encountered high
problem in catfish culture. Four characteristics of the respondent’s viz. media contact
for fish farming information, training exposure, level of education and organizational
participation had significant positive contribution with their Problems encountered in
catfish culture. On the basis of PEI, it was observed that “high price of feed” ranked
first followed by “unavailability of quality feed”, “high price of vaccine and
medicine”, “low production and lack of local market” and “disability of producing
required fish eggs” were the least problems encountered by the farmers in catfish
culture.

Abstract
The study aimed at assessing the livelihood improvement of the National Agricultural
Technology Program (NATP) phase-2 project as perceived by participant farmers and
finding out the contribution of the selected characteristics of the farmers to their
perceived livelihood improvement through participation in NATP-2 project. A pretested

interview schedule was used for collecting data from the farmers of Saidpur
and Khongoan union of Pirgonj upazila under Thakurgoan district. Out of 420
farmers, 111 farmers were randomly selected and interviewed from 10 October to 10
November, 2019. Perceived livelihood improvement of the farmers was measured by
5- point rating scale. Among the farmers, half of the respondents (50.4 percent)
belonged to high status of livelihood improvement while 31.3 percent of them had
medium and 18.3 percent had low status of livelihood improvement respectively. The
variation regarding different assets of livelihood was minimum, the highest status of
livelihood improvement was observed in case of physical capital and it was the lowest
in case of natural capital. Three out of nine selected characteristics of the farmers such
as farm size, use of technology and extension media contact had significant positive
relationships with their perceived livelihood improvement while the rest of the
variables showed no significant contribution. All the factors jointly contribute 37.0%
of the variance of perceived livelihood improvement (R
2
= .370). Age, education
qualification, family size, annual income, farming experience, training experience had
no significant contribution. To summarize, this study offered several practical and
theoretical recommendations about farmers’ perceived livelihood improvement
through NATP-2 project.
