The main objectives of this study were to determine the level of food insecurity condition faced by the rural&#13;
people of South Sadar Upazila of Comilla District and to explore the relationship between food insecurity of the&#13;
respondents and their selected characteristics. The study was conducted with randomly selected 120 rural&#13;
households of three villages namely, Dumuria, Lohipur and Dayapur of Chowara union under the South Sadar&#13;
upazila of Comilla District. Family head of each of the farm families was treated as the respondent. Pearson's&#13;
product moment correlation co-efficient (r) was computed to examine the relationship between the variables.&#13;
Food insecurity faced by the rural people was the dependent variable and ten selected characteristics of the&#13;
respondents constituted. the independent variables of this study, More than two- thirds (66.67%) of the&#13;
respondents were found to be in food secured condition followed by low insecured (20%) and medium food&#13;
insecured (13.33%). None faced high food insecured condition. Correlation (r) between food insecurity and&#13;
characteristics of the respondents showed that education, farm size, annual family income and daily time&#13;
allocation in farm work of the respondents had negative significant relationship, while family size and daily&#13;
dietary needs of the family had positive significant relationship with food insecurity.

Due to low organic mailer content the agricultural soils of Bangladesh has poor physical and chemical&#13;
condition. Moreover, the continuous use of phosphorus (P) fertilizers build-up of excessive P in many cultivated&#13;
soils has created an interest in the combined use of organic and inorganic P fertilizer. Hence, a field experiment&#13;
was conducted at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University Farm, Gazipur,&#13;
Bangladesh during the Aman season of July 2008 to January 2009 to investigate the effects of combined&#13;
application of inorganic phosphorus (Pi) and organic phosphorus (1),,)on the changes of physical and chemical&#13;
properties of soil after T. Aman cultivation. The eight treatments were To, Control/ no fertilizers; T"&#13;
recommended dose offertilizers; Tz, 50% P through TSP and 50% P through cowdung; T), 75% P through TSP&#13;
and 25% P through cowdung; T" 50% P through TSP and 50% P through poultry manure; Ts, 75% P through&#13;
TSP and 25% P through poultry manure; To, 50% P through TSP and 50% P through household wastes; T1, 75%&#13;
P through TSP and 25% P through household wastes. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete&#13;
block design (RCBD) and replicated thrice. The physical and chemical properties of the soils were influenced&#13;
directly by the above mentioned treatments. The physical properties of soil such as particle density and bulk&#13;
density at different soil depth and plough pan decreased in response to addition of organic matters whereas no&#13;
significant changes were found in response to inorganic P. The rate of improvement of chemical properties such&#13;
as organic carbon (OC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), total nitrogen, available Phosphorus (P),&#13;
exchangeable potassium (K), available sulphur(S), exchangeable calcium (Ca), exchangeable magnesium (Mg)&#13;
and exchangeable sodium (Na) was higher with inorganic plus organic amendment than to inorganic alone. In&#13;
addition, soil pH decreased in all treatments. Based on the above results it is suggested that the combined use of&#13;
inorganic and organic P significantly improve physical and chemical properties of post harvest T. Aman soil.

Different substrates such as sawdust, paddy straw, paper waste, pulse straw and sugarcane bagasse were used to&#13;
evaluate their effects on the growth and yield of four different strains of Pleurotus geesteranus mushroom. The&#13;
minimum days required from stimulation to primordia initiation (DRSPI) (3.75) and first harvest (DRSFH) (6.75)&#13;
were recorded when PG-2 was cultivated on sugarcane bagasse and the maximum DRSPI (14.00) and (DRSFH)&#13;
(18.00) were recorded when PG-3 was cultivated on pulse straw. The highest numbers of effective fruiting bodies&#13;
(43.50) were found in PG-4 when cultivated on paper waste. The highest biological yield (248.30g) and efficiency&#13;
(99.30 %) was recorded when PG-4 was cultivated on paper waste and the lowest biological yield (107.00g) and&#13;
efficiency (42.80 %) was found when PG-3 was cultivated on pulse straw.

The study was undertaken to know the hematological and biochemical profiles of repeat breeding zebu cows.&#13;
Blood samples from cows with repeat breeding syndrome were collected for hematological, biochemical and&#13;
humoral immune response analysis. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) was higher and hemoglobin (Hb)&#13;
percentage was lower in repeat breeding cows than the normal cyclic cows. The packed cell volume (Pf.V) was&#13;
lower in repeat breeding cows than in normal cyclic cows. Total erythrocyte count (TEC) is not signiticantly&#13;
different whereas total leukocyte counts (TLC) significantly higher in repeat breeding cows. The bilirubin&#13;
concentration was no! significantly higher (P&lt; 0.01) in repeat breeding cows compared to the control groups of&#13;
cows. The mean serum IgG was lower in repeat breeding cow than control groups of cows.
